I made a religious decision 10 years ago that was very hard to make. My parents immigrated to the USA from Iran when I was around 3 years old. Me and my brothers grew up as Muslims, but since we had lived so long in the USA, we were becoming more and more Americanized. I had started hanging out with some friends from school that basically invited me to a Super Bowl party at their church, and one thing led to another. As time went on, I eventually gave up being a Muslim and became a Christian. But it came at a price.
My parents had always said they would disown any child that quit the Muslim faith. Muslims tend to have a misunderstanding of the Trinity, and my parents are no exception. Without going into a lot of detail on issues that Muslims typically have regarding Christianity, suffice it to say most of it is heresay, misunderstanding, or misinterpretation.
So when I converted, I knew I would ge giving up my family. That was a hard decision. I have an older brother that also eventually converted, but other than him, I have not seen my parents or other siblings for over 8 years. I gave up trying to contact them 5 years or so ago.
